Job Description
Starting in the 26-27 school year, the After School Program Lead Teacher will be an enthusiastic, caring, and creative team member of the After School Program team that includes the Lower School Group of students in 1st-4th grade. The After School Lead teacher will promote the School’s Mission and function under the direction of the Head of School as a contributing member of the overall school community.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Be passionate about working with students of this particular age group.
- Know the appropriate knowledge and skills regarding developmental characteristics and needs of the specific age group with whom they work.
- Create a safe and secure environment in which students grow in both autonomy and the ability to work and play together, including providing specific programs that establish a bias‑free environment inclusive for all, which focuses on eliminating cliques and establishing a climate where bullying is unacceptable.
- Understand children’s patterns of physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth in order to support each child’s emerging identity, to respect and provide for each student’s voice, and to build a relationship with each student in which that student feels understood, nurtured, and challenged.
- Defend the dignity and worth of each member of the community and create an environment that fosters respect, understanding, and acceptance of differences.
- Work to create a relationship with parents that facilitates the exchange of information necessary to ensure the child’s progress including recognizing the implications of significant changes in children as they grow older.
- Help students learn to make responsible choices and understand the consequences of their actions.
- Work with the Director to coordinate the care, development and instructional support of the children enrolled in Ashbrook’s After School Program.
- Develop an enriching extended learning program that fully supports the academic achievement of students and exposes them to a wealth of enrichment opportunities.
- Plan and develop learning opportunities and curriculum to engage students during the after‑school hours that include homework support, snack time, social time, both indoor and outdoor games, projects and centers.
- Collaborate with staff within the After School program as well as with other staff throughout the school.
- Communicate proactively and positively with parents.
- Supervise and ensure the safety and health of children in the program.
- Create and maintain a positive and caring learning environment.
- Maintain all child care state licensing requirements.
- Arrive to work and designated school functions on time and maintain regular job attendance.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Associate’s degree or higher in Education OR has worked at least 600 hours in a childcare program.
- Knowledge of developmentally appropriate lower‑school enrichment curriculum designed to promote learning in multiple modalities.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Must have prior to or within 2 weeks of start date: CPR/First Aid certification, Food Handlers Card, registration with Oregon Central Background Registry, Child Abuse and Neglect Training.
- At least two years of successful experience in a classroom, childcare facility or After School Program.
Hourly wage rate will be determined based on experience level. Minimum starting wage is $17.02 per hour.
Daily report hours are from 2:30pm to 5:30pm.
