This recruitment will be used to fill 20 part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week, and up to 40 hours per week during academic breaks) Student Outreach Assistant (Peer Mentor) positions for the Department of Precollege Programs at Oregon State University (OSU).
Students will mentor K-12 students during Campus Field Trips, STEM Academy programs, Beaver Hangout sessions, iINVENT sessions and/or other Precollege Programs. Students will support a wide range of youth outreach activities designed to increase college access and academic preparation for Oregon's youth. Students may perform functions or duties that regularly require interaction with minors in a private setting or without direct supervision on-site.
Will act as an ambassador and representative for both OSU and Precollege Programs at all times.
Anticipated hourly rate: $16.00

40% Connecting with students, sharing personal stories and encouraging them to pursue higher education
10% In-office tasks such as paperwork and activity preparation
10% Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

* Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
* Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
* Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
* High School student:
Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
* Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
* Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term
* * Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
* Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term
* * International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered "full-time" by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.

* Students should be self-directed and motivated and able to adapt to changing circumstances
* Must be flexible to do a variety of tasks that may arise
* This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 2 years.
Preferred (Special) Qualifications
* Experience working with youth is desired
* Preference will go to a student with demonstrated leadership skills and with experience in the youth education fields
* Students who can effectively communicate STEM subjects with K-12 students, as well as teachers and faculty, preferred for some positions
* Bilingual (Spanish/English) skills a plus
