The College of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences invites applications for a part‑time (0.75 FTE), 12‑month, tenure‑track Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position. Appointment at the Assistant Professor rank is anticipated, although promotion may be considered based on qualifications. The position holds the R. S. Yeats Endowed Professorship, generating annual funds to develop a cutting‑edge research program in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology.
Key Responsibilities- Teaching – 50%
- Research/Scholarship – 40%
- Service – 10%
- Integrate field‑generated data with analytical and/or computational techniques to understand crustal deformation processes over earthquake‑cycle and longer timescales.
- Conduct interdisciplinary, field‑based research in areas such as continental deformation, subduction zones, paleo seismology, fault‑zone mechanics, and related sub‑fields.
- Teach undergraduate courses in geology and/or marine geology and graduate courses in specialty areas.
- Develop a strong, externally funded research program and build an international reputation in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology.
- Contribute to college‑ and university‑wide diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
- Participate in service activities at the institutional and professional level.
- Doctoral degree in Geology or a cognate field.
- Commitment to equity and inclusive excellence in education, research, and outreach.
- Demonstrated record or potential for high‑quality, independent scientific research in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology.
- Record of teaching excellence and student success.
- Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in the field.
- Established or potential externally funded research program of high impact.
- Proficiency in oral and written English.
- Field‑oriented research experience in Active Tectonics and Earthquake Geology.
- Interdisciplinary collaboration within and beyond CEOAS.
- Engagement with communities at risk from earthquake hazards.
The position requires field and laboratory work worldwide, often in rough terrain, inclement weather, and strenuous environments. Travel may be required to advance the research program.
