Responsibilities
  • Maintenance of ongoing research, including watering, fertilizing, pruning, cleaning plants, planting, weeding potted plants, and moving plant collections.
  • Routine greenhouse cleaning: cleaning greenhouse cooling tanks and systems, sweeping, blowing off, and washing floors, walls, benches, walkways, and storage areas.
  • Routine grounds maintenance: weed control around greenhouses, buildings, gravel drives, parking areas, nursery pads, flower beds, and removal of leaves and plant debris from outdoor growing areas.
  • Set‑up or preparation for events and programs, such as stage set‑up for CAES graduate recognition ceremonies and departmental events in greenhouse facilities.
  • Maintenance of headhouse and greenhouse storage facilities, assisting with cleaning and organization of labs and storage, straightening classrooms between classes or events, and other cleaning and maintenance projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Enthusiastic and interested in plants.
  • Prior greenhouse or growth chamber training preferred.
  • Works well independently; trustworthy; listens to direction.
  • Good communication skills; asks questions when instructions are unclear.
  • Lifts up to 25 pounds.
  • Driving required.
  • Undergoes a background investigation and credit check (including criminal background check, reference checks, and, if applicable, a drug test).
