Job Title: Accessibility Document Specialist

Job Duration: 6 month project, could be extended

Location: Crystal Lake, IL

Pay Rate: $27.00-$29.00/hr BOE

Job Description:
  • Ensure digital content (Word, PDF, PPT, SharePoint, etc.) meets the WCAG principles:
    Perceivable, Operable, Understandable, and Robust (POUR)
  • Conduct accessibility audits and validate accessibility across devices, browsers, and assistive technologies using automated tools and manual testing (screen readers, keyboard navigation, PAC, WAVE, etc.)
  • Identify and remediate accessibility issues to meet WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria
  • Collaborate with content creators to ensure digital files are accessible
  • Support compliance with legal standards (e.g., ADA, Section 508)
  • Provide guidance on accessible multimedia including video and audio (captions, transcripts, audio descriptions)
  • Maintain documentation, accessibility reports, and remediation plans
  • Stay current with updates to the WCAG Guidelines, legal mandates, and evolving accessibility technologies
  • Develop policies and workflows centered around digital accessibility for the Office of Human Resources
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
  • Compliance Knowledge:
    Detailed understanding of WCAG 2.1 AA, Section 508, and ADA digital guidelines.
  • Software Proficiency:
    Advanced knowledge of Adobe Acrobat Pro and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Remediation Tools:
    Experience with remediation tools such as PAC, Wave, Equidox, etc.
  • Attention to detail (critical for compliance)
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex document issues
  • Understanding how users with disabilities interact with content
  • Experience with screen readers (JAWS, NVDA, Narrator, etc.)
  • Certification: an accessibility certification such as a Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) or Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS)
