Estimator – Heavy Civil / Site Development
Location: Dallas‑Fort Worth, Texas, United States (On‑site)
Industry: Construction / Heavy Civil / Site Development
Job Function: Estimating / Preconstruction
Seeking an Estimator with experience in heavy civil and site development construction to support preconstruction and bidding efforts on commercial, industrial, and infrastructure site preparation projects throughout the Dallas‑Fort Worth area. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, bid proposals, and subcontractor/vendor pricing for earthwork, utilities, paving, and civil infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates for site development and site preparation projects including earthwork, grading, excavation, underground utilities, paving, storm drainage, and concrete work.
- Perform quantity takeoffs from construction drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor pricing to support competitive bid proposals.
- Analyze project plans, geotechnical reports, utility conflicts, and specifications to identify project risks and cost impacts.
- Develop budgets, bid summaries, and conceptual estimates for commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects.
- Coordinate with project managers, operations teams, subcontractors, and suppliers during preconstruction activities.
- Assist with value engineering, scope reviews, and alternative construction methods to improve project competitiveness.
- Prepare and track RFIs during the bidding process to clarify scope and project requirements.
- Maintain accurate estimating databases, production rates, labor costs, and historical pricing information.
- Participate in pre‑bid meetings, site visits, and owner/subcontractor coordination meetings.
- Support project turnover from estimating to operations after project award.
- 3+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, site development, or infrastructure construction.
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, grading, excavation, underground utilities, paving, and concrete construction.
- Ability to read and interpret civil drawings, specifications, and bid documents.
- Experience with estimating software such as Heavy Bid, Agtek, Bluebeam, HCSS, Bid2
Win, or Excel. - Understanding of construction means and methods, production rates, and cost analysis.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
