The Registered Nurse (RN) – Dialysis provides specialized nursing care to patients with kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis or peritoneal dialysis treatments. The RN monitors patients before, during, and after dialysis sessions, ensuring safety, comfort, and adherence to treatment protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and initiate dialysis treatments according to physician orders and facility protocols.
- Monitor patient vital signs and reactions during dialysis, responding promptly to any complications.
- Assess vascular access sites and report any abnormalities.
- Educate patients and families on dialysis procedures, diet, and lifestyle management.
- Collaborate with nephrologists, dietitians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
- Document all treatments, observations, and patient responses accurately in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Maintain dialysis equipment and ensure infection control practices are followed.
- Provide emotional support and education to patients coping with chronic kidney disease.
- Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Previous experience in dialysis nursing or related clinical settings preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Strong assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication and patient education abilities.
- Must have at least 2 years of recent experience in the specialty within the past 2 years.
- Certification in Nephrology Nursing (CNN) or Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN).
- Experience with dialysis machines and software systems.
- Knowledge of renal nutrition and pharmacology.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) or Certified Dialysis Nurse (CDN) preferred.
