Position Overview
The University of California, Davis, School of Medicine, Department of Pharmacology invites applications for a full‑time academic position in the "Assistant Project Scientist" series. The role focuses on computational research to define the signaling mechanisms underlying atrial fibrogenesis and atrial fibrillation.
Salary estimate: $76,700–$97,600.
Responsibilities- Develop and refine computational models of cardiac fibroblast and atrial signaling networks.
- Integrate literature‑derived mechanisms with experimental and transcriptomic datasets.
- Perform parameter estimation, model validation, predictive analyses, sensitivity analysis, clustering, and quantitative data integration.
- Identify key regulatory nodes and pathways related to atrial fibrosis and arrhythmogenesis.
- Prepare figures, analyses, and written summaries for manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
- Design collaborative validation studies with experimental partners.
- Pursue independent funding opportunities aligned with the research program.
- Maintain scientific rigor, reproducibility, and laboratory safety standards.
- Supervise graduate and undergraduate students and mentor them through research activities.
- PhD in Computer Science, Computational Biology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Physiology, or a related quantitative field.
- At least 3 years of postdoctoral research with a strong record of scholarship in computational modeling of biological systems and cardiovascular disease mechanisms.
- Expertise in ordinary differential equation–based network and signaling models, algorithm development, and quantitative analysis of complex biological systems.
- Experience with quantitative analysis of biological data, including model fitting, validation, sensitivity analysis, clustering, and integration of transcriptomic or single‑cell datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to design, plan, and execute independent research projects; proficiency in writing research papers and grant applications.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
