Responsibilities
Supervises and participates with a crew engaged in the operation of street painting equipment. Responsible for painting traffic control lines, markings on street surfaces and the fabrication of traffic control signs. Performs skilled tasks including brush or spray painting and silk‑screening of sign blanks; using sign design software to design and fabricate traffic control and other signs; and operating street striping equipment.
Participates with a crew engaged in the operation of street painting equipment, does layout, markings and painting of centerlines, lane lines, stop lines, crosswalks and various other traffic control markings.
Education: Graduation from high school (or G.E.D.).
Experience: Must have one year of experience in one of the following areas:
- Traffic Control street painting in accordance with manual on uniform traffic control devices.
- Traffic Control mechanic assigned to a sign or paint crew.
- Sign design and fabrication.
OR
Must have 3 years of experience as a trades worker performing construction, carpentry, or tool shop work.
License RequirementsMust possess a valid driver's license at time of appointment and maintain thereafter as a term and condition of continued employment.
Within 150 days of appointment must obtain and maintain a valid Ohio Class B Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.), including the qualification to operate a vehicle with air brakes and any other endorsements required by the State of Ohio. Out of state residents must have equivalent licenses from their state of residence within the prescribed 150 days of appointment.
General RequirementsWhile performing the duty of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals and works with moving mechanical parts. The employee is exposed to vibration for extended periods of time and works in wet and/or humid conditions; outside weather conditions; extreme cold and extreme heat. The employee must work in and around live vehicular traffic for extended periods of time.
BackgroundCheck
A background investigation is required prior to employment. All candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position, including current city employees seeking transfer, promotion, demotion, etc. into a classified position.
Drug and Nicotine TestingFinal appointment is contingent upon the applicant passing a drug screen. Applicants offered employment with the City will be required to pass a nicotine screening. Newly hired employees must remain tobacco and nicotine free as a condition of continued employment. The Tobacco and Nicotine Free Hiring Policy does not apply to current City employees.
