Micro Lab Tech
OverviewPrimient, a leading producer of food and industrial ingredients, is seeking a Micro Lab Tech to support the Decatur-based Central Quality Control (CQC) Microbiology Lab. The role involves performing microbiological analyses, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards.
Responsibilities- Support the activities of the Decatur-based Central Quality Control (CQC) Microbiology Lab.
- Conduct microbiological analysis of process, finished product, and environmental samples using equipment such as Biomerieux VIDAS, VITEK, TEMPO, pH meters, microscopes, and vacuum filtration systems.
- Prepare media, reagents, and test samples; perform quality control evaluations on media and reagents.
- Record and verify data in SAP, MDE, electronic logbook, and Excel; maintain data and sample retention.
- Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment; report deficiencies or malfunctions.
- Keep the laboratory clean, stocked, and organized.
- Write and update test methods and SOPs as requested.
- Identify and document nonconformities or potential nonconformities; assist in corrective actions.
- Participate in ongoing and annual training, SOP reviews, and proficiency testing.
- Adhere to all EHSQ policies, procedures, and regulations relevant to the site.
- Cover shifts of 4–10 hours, either Mon–Thurs or Tues–Fri, with flexibility for vacations and other absences; cover weekend rotational coverage after training.
- Active participation in safety programs.
- Support ISO 17025 accreditation by following the Quality Manual, Test Methods, and SOPs.
- Assist with incoming projects for the Quality Micro Lab.
- Four‑year college degree with technical training in microbiology, biological, physical, or engineering sciences, or an associate degree with 5 years proven experience.
- Five years of proven experience in microbiology laboratory work.
- Strong knowledge of microbiology laboratory methods and equipment.
- Ability to multi‑task, prioritize, and maintain attention to detail and accuracy.
- Capacity to work in a fast‑paced environment and adapt to changing procedures.
- Good troubleshooting skills and teamwork abilities.
- Excellent communication and computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Customer focus and understanding of customer needs.
- Physical ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Aseptic techniques.
- Standard microbiology culture procedures.
- Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs).
Starting salary of $73,840 annually plus overtime opportunities.
