SummaryUnder the direction and supervision of the Program Director, the EL Instructional Aide is responsible for assisting classroom teachers with instruction of English Language Learners and other areas of the building. Excellent communication, technological, and organizational skills and a genuine desire to work with students are required.
Qualifications- 30 hours of college credit or a BA degree.
- Paraprofessional Certification registered with Lake County ROE.
- Some experience in a school setting is a plus.
- Strong Fluency in Spanish language skills preferred.
- Competency using Google Chrome and Chromebooks.
- Work with bilingual, English Language Learners, and Dual Language students in classrooms and resource rooms as an instructional assistant.
- Communicate effectively with classroom teachers and department chair.
- Assist teachers with classroom management and instruction.
- Aid with attendance, classroom organization, and production of instructional materials.
- Monitor student behavior and assist with discipline.
- Monitor student work, clarify instructions, administer assessments and supervise classrooms and labs.
- Work with students to interpret or simplify or clarify assessment without providing answers.
- Work individually with students on academic tasks.
- Help students with homework assignments, assist students with computer use, etc.
- Provide language translations and support to students who are learning English.
- Develop and display awareness for course curriculum and lesson objectives.
- Participate professionally in all‑school responsibilities (Building supervision, coaching assignments, club sponsor ships, etc.)
- Actively contribute to a positive school environment.
Communicates clearly both in oral and written format with all constituents of the District 113 community. Effectively present information and respond to questions from constituency groups. Apply knowledge of current research and theory in a specific field. Establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Mathematicaland Technical Skills
Calculate figures, estimates, proportions, percentages, and cost projections. Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. Strong technology skills, including standard Microsoft Office suite / Google Workspace, financial management, and data analysis.
Reasoning AbilityDefine problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Interpret an extensive variety of verbal and written instructions and deal with multiple abstract and concrete variables.
Contacts Outside Your Own DepartmentBuild positive relationships with constituents of the District 113 community that includes teachers, school staff, administrative team, Board of Education, guardians, students, and private providers.
Physical and Mental Demands- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, write, type, speak, listen, and taste or smell.
