Department Summary

Faculty Success supports faculty in developing their professional community, capabilities, career, and climate through holistic learning and development programs, prestigious recognitions and policy development, networking and mentoring, and transparent communication.

Position Overview

The Faculty Development Specialist is a key member of the Faculty Success Office team and is expected to be a partner in providing career-track-relevant faculty development programming, support, and resource planning that supports UNT’s mission. The FDS works closely with the Vice Provost of Faculty Success and other faculty development unit leaders (LEEF, SEA, DRI, Student Success, Libraries) to assess faculty development needs and provide relevant programming.

The FDS's primary focus is on leading the faculty career development and mentoring programs, managing the faculty awards and grants application portal, and assessing FS programs and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in academic discipline and 4 years of experience consulting with faculty engaging on students in learning experiences that incorporate authentic learning activities; or any equivalent combination of experience/education/training.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience working with evidence-based practices to develop career and rank-related faculty development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated agility, discretion, and professionalism in communicating across different faculty and leadership positions (e.g., chairs, deans, vice presidents).
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative team environment and collaborate across units.
  • Be successful at self-directed tasks, including leading projects and initiatives.
Job Duties
  • Faculty Mentoring and Professional Development :
    Mentoring Program:
    Responsible for managing and updating the mentoring program: administering (new) faculty mentoring matches (fall), updating and maintaining the Bridge asynchronous mentoring training, liaising with faculty learning communities, and developing at least one mentoring event (fall, spring semester). New Faculty Orientation (NFO) Lead (fall, spring): responsible for developing and implementing the NFO in-person one-day (fall) and virtual half-day (spring) event Chair the Mentoring Award Committee Collaborative Events:
    Aligned with FS strategic priorities, may collaborate with other faculty development units (LEEF, SEA, DRI) in faculty development programming.
  • Faculty Award Management and Support:
    Create, edit, and administer faculty awards, career development grants, and leadership application calls in Info Ready. Collaborate with SFE Committee leads to ensure annual award calls and rubrics are updated and correct. Update and maintain current award documents, including review committee lists and applicant award status documents. Lead award notification processes and approvals, including assisting with reviewing award letters. Participate in the Salute to Faculty Excellence event planning committee.
  • Communications, Assessments, and Reporting:
    Serve as primary lead for FS Linked In Account, collaborating with FS team and UBSC liaison on content. Maintain FS summative surveys through Qualtrics; assess and report…
