Outside Plant Maintenance Technician II

The Field Operations team is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of residential and small business services. Within GFiber’s Field Operations, the Plant Maintenance team supports wired and wireless customer installation and network construction, fostering the growth and maintenance of GFiber networks.

As a Senior Outside Plant (OSP) Maintenance Technician, you will focus on the installation, repair, and maintenance of the GFiber physical plant in the Distribution Network. You will diagnose and correct all service‑impacting root causes from the central office, remote terminal, or hut location to the customer’s premise equipment, and assist vendor partners in developing expertise in OSP while continuing to provide coverage for downstream portions of our network infrastructure.

Technical Expertise

• Ensure continuous residential and small business services by identifying and resolving service‑disrupting issues spanning the GFiber network.
• Diagnose and correct issues with OSP network connectivity, including drop cabling, NIDs, patch panels, media cabinets, and ONTs.
• Troubleshoot problems related to inside wiring (fiber, ethernet, coaxial, twisted‑pair), powering systems (backup power, UPS), and network devices (media gateways, modems, routers, switches).
• Install, restore, or maintain aerial and underground cable plant.
• Install and test Ethernet jacks, make cross connects in telecom spaces, and perform installation, construction, maintenance, and troubleshooting of cabling and network devices.

• Foster a culture of continuous learning by collaborating with team members to achieve proficiency in troubleshooting complex network and wiring issues.

Additional Responsibilities

• Work non‑standard working hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts.
• Travel domestically up to 10% of the time.

Minimum Requirements

• 5 years of experience in FTTH / GPON network construction and/or fiber network deployments.
• 3 years of experience in fiber splicing for termination and midspan use cases, along with OTDR and power‑meter testing.
• 3 years of experience managing relationships with contractors and vendors of varying types and sizes.
• Experience with physical layer components of networking infrastructure (twisted‑pair copper, 66 blocks, 110 blocks, patch panels, fiber optic cabling, etc.).
• Valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs of equipment as required.
• Pass a motor vehicle record check that meets company standards.
• Availability for non‑standard working hours and 10% domestic travel.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience interfacing with local pole owners, utility companies, and city/local permitting offices, and expertise in OSP FTTH deployments with service drop installations.
• 3 years of experience with B2B/Enterprise fiber network construction/operations.
• Experience troubleshooting Ethernet network issues related to routers, switches, and hubs.
• Experience with rack and stack work, assembling server stanchions, telemetry closet work, and patch panels.
• Ability to safely operate bucket vehicles up to 25 feet above ground.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace and Salesforce applications.
