HIRING RANGE: $18.30-$20.66 per hour based on experience.
Pay Grade: 06

Keep buildings or portions of campuses neat, clean and sanitary for use by the college community. Perform basic building maintenance repairs. Act on behalf of the supervisor as directed.

• Perform various building cleaning tasks including: thoroughly clean restrooms; clean and vacuum carpets; maintain hard surface flooring; remove all trash and recycle materials; clean chalkboards, whiteboards, ledges and erasers; clean glass; wash windows; dust furniture; clean ceiling diffusers; clean trash cans; clean walls; clean out janitor’s closets; other tasks as required or needed.
• Perform mechanical, electrical and plumbing repairs.
• Maintain grounds including snow removal; mowing; planting; fertilizing; aeration.
• Order and maintain appropriate custodial supplies from Physical Plant warehouse.
• Secure buildings before leaving.
• Provide work direction to custodians, temporary workers, work study students and community service workers as assigned.
• Complete ongoing training on operation of all equipment, safety regulations, and use of new products and techniques.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• One year of custodial experience which included operation of extractors, burnishers, auto scrubbers, and related equipment, and which included or was supplemented by some minor building maintenance experience.
• Ability to read and understand operating instructions.
• Ability to periodically move equipment/furniture/supplies weighing up to 75 lbs; occasionally climb ladders; frequently bend, reach, and push.
• Valid Iowa driver’s license, or ability to obtain, with a satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to interact effectively, courteously and impartially with varied populations.
