Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.

Summary

Resident Assistants (RAs) are live-in student leaders dedicated to supporting the personal, social, and academic success of residents within the Campus View community. RAs foster an inclusive, safe, and engaging living environment while helping students successfully transition to Campus View and Highline College. Through community development, mentorship, programming, and policy enforcement, RAs serve as valuable resources and role models for residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Community Development & Residential Support

  • Build relationships with residents and learn resident names and room assignments within the first three weeks of the semester.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful residential community through communication, engagement, and programming.
  • Maintain a visible and approachable presence within the residence halls and community.
  • Encourage resident involvement in floor activities, residence hall programs, and campus-wide events.
  • Identify and assist residents experiencing academic, personal, emotional, wellness, or social concerns and refer students to appropriate campus resources when needed.
  • Respond appropriately to incidents involving discriminatory, harassing, or inappropriate behavior related to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual identity, disability, or other protected identities.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between residents and Campus View Student Housing staff.
  • Notify supervisors promptly of roommate conflicts and assist with mediation processes and roommate agreements.
  • Address and document policy violations appropriately and report incidents to the Resident Director.
  • Interpret and uphold residence hall and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Encourage residents to take responsibility for their actions and community impact.
  • Complete incident reports, duty logs, and related documentation accurately and promptly.

Programming & Student Engagement

  • Plan and facilitate at least one social or educational program each month in alignment with the residential programming curriculum.
  • Encourage resident involvement in the planning and implementation of programs and community initiatives.
  • Submit program proposals, promotional materials, and evaluations by established deadlines.
  • Complete program evaluations within 24 hours following program completion.

Facilities & Operations

  • Assist with residence hall opening and closing procedures each semester.
  • Participate in room condition assessments before move-in and after move-out.
  • Conduct health, safety, and maintenance inspections and follow up on concerns as needed.
  • Report maintenance and facility concerns promptly.
  • Assist with additional facility management responsibilities as assigned.

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Complete administrative duties thoroughly and on time, including occupancy checks, damage billing documentation, maintenance reporting, surveys, and incident documentation.
  • Participate in staff training and administrative preparation prior to the start of classes and following the conclusion of each semester.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, in-services, one-on-one meetings with supervisors, and departmental events.

Duty & Emergency Response

  • Participate in the RA on-call duty rotation, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and academic break periods.
  • Respond to emergencies and situations requiring immediate attention.
  • Learn and implement emergency response and crisis management procedures.
  • Conduct duty rounds throughout all residential buildings and respond to calls received on the duty phone.
