Job Description

Kleinfelder is looking for a Pipeline Project Engineer to join our Detroit, MI office. This hybrid role involves developing and applying broad knowledge and skills in various natural gas work streams, independently evaluating, selecting and applying standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform pipeline projects. Projects range in size and complexity from small to large, including both distribution and transmission type projects.

The Pipeline Project Engineer acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields and can function as a member or Lead of multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering
  • 6-10 years relevant experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) preferred
  • Working knowledge of CAD and GIS software
  • Technical communication skills
  • Proficiency with MS Outlook, Word, Excel, Project, and Power Point
  • Utility business understanding
  • Valid driver's license
  • Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations Title 42 Part 192
Responsibilities

You will be expected to:

  • Prepare pipeline designs, including calculations, drawings, profiles, details, layouts, and studies from field inspections, preliminary sketches, specifications, and instructions requiring knowledge of engineering practices and shop and field procedures
  • Prepare pipeline and facility designs, review designs and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and design criteria
  • Acquire and analyze data using appropriate standard quantitative methods
  • Conduct gas system network and hydraulic analysis
  • Prepare construction specifications and bid packages
  • Perform pipeline design and material selection
  • Conduct alternative/feasibility studies
  • Develop status reports with task completion, progress, challenges, and solutions
  • Work closely with other work groups at clients' place of business and Kleinfelder offices
  • Coordinate various inspection and testing methods, gather data, analyze, and report findings
  • Coordinate and project manage internal resources and subcontractors
  • Demonstrate sound engineering judgment
  • Assign tasks to and coordinate with drafting and administrative staff, associate engineers and technicians
  • Provide guidance, instruction, and coaching to entry-level and other engineers
  • Assist in determining schedule and budget requirements
  • Support business development and marketing initiatives
