Amentum provides client‑oriented solutions across the environment, energy, and defence businesses, and we need to expand our team of environmental specialists. We are seeking a desk‑ and site‑based Acoustic Consultant to support project operations across the wider Amentum business.
This role can be based in Harwell, Rotherham, Cumbria or Birchwood.
- Noise & vibration measurements:
Undertake site‑based noise and vibration measurements for environmental noise monitoring, construction, transport, and building acoustics. - Acoustic reports & tools:
Develop and review desk‑based acoustic reports using software such as Cadna
A, Sound
PLAN, and Odeon. Assist in producing high‑quality documents detailing acoustic assessments suitable for clients and regulators. - Digital portfolio development:
Contribute to building a digital portfolio for acoustics, including the creation of both online and in‑person materials to communicate project goals and findings. - Best available techniques:
Develop acoustics‑focused best available techniques that integrate with wider environmental assessments, permitting processes, and Development Consent Orders (DCOs). - Project delivery:
Manage and deliver various permitting and planning applications, as well as permit variations. Conduct site visits, install monitoring equipment, and liaise with client project managers to ensure smooth project execution. - Laboratory & noise room facility:
Support the development of Amentum’s acoustics laboratory and noise room facility, helping to enhance our in‑house capabilities.
- Acoustics experience:
At least one year of experience in preparing environmental impact acoustics assessments and supporting the development of environmental statements. - Education:
Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in acoustics, environmental science, applied sciences, mathematics, computer science, engineering, physics, or a related field. - Software proficiency:
Hands‑on experience with Cadna
A, Sound
PLAN, and Odeon for modelling and assessment. - Additional knowledge:
Familiarity with the planning application process is advantageous. Interest in computational modelling (e.g. Python coding), health system effects of noise in marine ecosystems, and/or sound recording and signal processing is a plus. - Communication & problem‑solving:
Strong interpersonal, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to tackle technical challenges in a collaborative environment. - Flexibility:
Willingness to travel on business as required, including potential visits to overseas sites.
