We are seeking a skilled practitioner to join the Emergency Duty Team (EDT), delivering a high‑quality out‑of‑hours statutory social work service to children, families, and vulnerable adults.
Working outside standard office hours, you will respond to urgent and high‑risk situations including safeguarding concerns, child protection issues, adult safeguarding, mental health crises, and emergency placements. The role requires strong professional judgement, confidence in autonomous decision‑making, and the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure. - Provide an out‑of‑hours statutory social work service across children’s and adult services.
- Respond to emergency safeguarding concerns, including child protection and adult safeguarding referrals.
- Undertake urgent assessments and interventions to manage immediate risk and ensure safety.
- Make informed decisions regarding emergency placements, accommodation, and support arrangements.
- Work closely with partner agencies including police, health services, mental health teams, and emergency services.
- Exercise sound professional judgement in complex, high‑risk situations, often with limited information.
- Complete Mental Health Act–related work where required (subject to service model).
- Maintain accurate, timely, and legally compliant case records and detailed handover reports.
- Provide clear recommendations and handovers to daytime teams to ensure continuity of care.
- Work in line with relevant legislation, statutory guidance, and local policies.
- Adhere to lone working, health and safety, and escalation procedures.
- Participate in supervision, training, and continuous professional development activities.
