Background Check
Required:
Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5. Employees will submit fingerprints for background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old.
- Minimum of a B.S. Degree in the area of instructional responsibility required.
- Alabama State Department of Education Teaching Certification in the area of instructional responsibility required.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of state curriculum content standards and district educational goals and objectives of instructional specialty.
- Knowledge of student academic progress toward stated objectives of instruction.
- Knowledge of the school’s program of studies related to mission, goals and organization.
- Skilled and effective in oral and written communication.
- Ability to develop and implement lesson plans based on district and state courses of study to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
- Ability to use and manage technology including e-mail, internet, Microsoft Office Programs, CD-ROMs, DVDs, videos, etc.
- Knowledge and understanding of the school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.
- If teaching physical education, must possess sufficient strength, dexterity, endurance, agility and skill to carry out the program of studies assigned.
- Physically and emotionally able to perform required work and move about as needed.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Board’s policies and procedures.
- Assesses student abilities as related to desired educational goals, objectives and student outcomes.
- Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction.
- Plans class activities and lesson presentations that are age-appropriate and meet the needs, interests and ability levels of all students.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning.
- Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and resolving learning problems.
- Maintains professional competence and continuous improvement through in-service education and other professional growth activities as required.
- Demonstrates positive and technically competent parent/community relations skills and maintains confidentiality of all students’ records.
- Participates in school-level planning, faculty meetings/committees and other school system groups.
- Performs other duties within scope of employment and certification as assigned.
- Assumes additional responsibilities and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor.
- Establishes and maintains rapport with other teachers, team leaders, department heads, district-level coordinators and instructional support employees.
- Fulfills professional responsibilities beyond classroom, including participation in co-curricular programs and community/parent groups, upholding high ethical standards.
- Models appropriate personal characteristics and work habits consistent with student development goals.
- This position will be subject to Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools.
- Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
