ResponsibilitiesThe Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) supports safe, efficient, and patient-centered care in the Admissions and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This role assists nursing staff with patient preparation, recovery, and discharge processes while reinforcing SCA’s commitment to clinical quality, service excellence, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities Patient Care Support- Assist with patient admissions, including vital signs, height/weight, and documentation as directed
- Prepare patients for surgery (gowning, belongings management, comfort measures)
- Provide post-procedure support in PACU under RN direction (monitoring, positioning, hygiene needs)
- Assist with patient discharge processes, including transport and instructions reinforcement
- Maintain patient dignity, privacy, and comfort at all times
- Duties as designated
- Ensure patient bays/rooms are stocked, clean, organized, and prepared for patient care
- Maintain a safe, clutter-free environment to support efficient workflow and reduce fall/safety risks
- Perform routine environmental cleaning between patients in accordance with ASC and infection control standards
- Remove garbage, linen, and waste promptly to maintain cleanliness and readiness of care areas
- Manage regulated medical waste, including proper handling, packaging, and disposal in accordance with OSHA and facility policies
- Monitor and maintain sharps containers, ensuring they are safely used, not overfilled, and replaced per protocol
- Consistently adhere to infection prevention protocols, including hand hygiene and standard precautions
- Utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) based on task and exposure risk
- Support compliance with all AAAHC standards and ASC infection control and patient safety protocols and policies
- Assist with point-of-care testing as directed, including:
- Pregnancy testing
- Hemoglobin testing
- Blood glucose monitoring
- High school education or equivalent (GED)
- Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification (State of Delaware or applicable state); preferred
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Previous healthcare experience preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented surgical environment
- Attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
- Ability to prioritize tasks and support efficient patient throughput
- Ability to stand, walk and assist with patient transport throughout shift up to seven (7) hours of an eight (8) hour shift; frequent bending, stooping, and crouching
- Lifting requirements:
- Up to 10 lbs. – 100% of the time
- Up to 25 lbs. – 2/3 of the time
- Up to 50 lbs. with assistance – up to 1/3 of the time
- Ability to lift and reposition patients with assistance/equipment as needed
- Manual dexterity sufficient for clinical support tasks
