Position: Public Sector - Snr Auditor / Audit Mgr

FRS has been retained by the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General to source suitably qualified accountants for a Senior Auditor (Audit Manager) for their city centre offices. The role of the Office of Comptroller and Auditor General (OCAG ) is to audit government departments and non-commercial state bodies. Currently the OCAG is actively involved in the auditing of over 300 public bodies.

Title Senior Auditor/Audit Manager

This role offers the right candidate an ideal opportunity to join a team of highly skilled professionals. As Senior Auditor, you will be afforded a significant amount of responsibility and will oversee the work of three others. In addition, you will be the liaison between the OCAG and their clients so it is imperative that you have effective communication skills, both written and verbal. The OCAG has a diverse range of clients ensuring that each week offers new challenges. As a Senior Auditor, you will be afforded a significant amount of autonomy. You will also make an active contribution to supporting the C&AG in his role in providing independent assurance that public funds and resources are used in accordance with the law, managed to good effect and properly accounted for and to contribute to improvement in public administration.

Responsibilities may include:
* Applying audit and reporting policies, strategies and standards effectively
* Managing team members and reviewing their work to ensure that it has been carried out efficiently and effectively in line with approved methodologies and that all key issues have been identified and dealt with appropriately
* Reporting the results of audits and examinations to senior management
* Making recommendations to senior management about matters involving complex professional judgements
* Representing the team in its dealings with audited bodies including attendance at audit committees of audited bodies
* Briefing all peoples involved and committees as required
* Delivering the annual business plan for the team

Candidates should have the following experience/skills:
* You must have strong team building and interpersonal skills to motivate, support and direct professional staff and to build strong working relationships with staff and management in audited bodies
* You must have a high level of oral and written communication skills, including an ability to summarise complex technical issues in a cogent and concise manner
* You must have a professional accountancy qualification
* You must have significant recent relevant experience at an appropriate senior level in financial auditing or in programme evaluation
* You must have strong project management skills and be able to effectively manage a portfolio of work, so that work is completed on time to the highest quality standards
* You must have the capacity to make sound judgements on technical issues and to recommend the necessary consequential action
* You must be capable of analysing complex business operations and evaluating performance of organisations
* You should be familiar with the workings of the Irish Government, of parliamentary financial procedures and principles of government accounting
* You should have an understanding of commercial accounting and audit procedures as they relate to the State sector
* You should have an understanding of performance evaluation in the public sector.
