School of Medicine - Scottish Graduate Entry Medicine (ScotGEM) PROGRAMME DIRECTOR

We are recruiting for an exceptional ScotGEM Programme Director.

The ScotGEM programme is taught through a partnership between the universities of St Andrews and Dundee in collaboration with NHS Fife, NHS Tayside, NHS Highland, NHS Dumfries and Galloway and the University of the Highlands and Islands. This exciting partnership has enabled us to create a truly distinctive programme.

The post of Director of ScotGEM is an exciting full-time clinical academic post and a key strategic appointment within the Schools of Medicine.

The post is dedicated purely to the ScotGEM programme with recognition, office space and core academic support functions across both institutions and has responsibility for shaping and delivering the overall ScotGEM programme and will be part of both academic institutions but primarily responsible to the Deans of Medicine and ScotGEM Joint Programme Board. The duties may be any of those listed below but will vary with the requirements of the programme.

The post holder will agree outcomes with the Joint Programme Board. They will be responsible for planning, prioritising and allocating their own work and will have freedom to initiate, implement and deliver outcomes within the agreed framework. The post holder will be expected to work independently, maintain effective time management and prioritise tasks appropriately.

It is anticipated that the successful applicant will continue with a clinical commitment for 2-5 sessions per week, although this may vary according to individual needs/ preferences. Depending on previous experience, the post will carry either Senior Lecturer, Reader or Chair status within the University. The post-holder is expected to undertake Continuing Professional Development and participate in normal revalidation and appraisal processes.

Education

& Qualifications
  • Full GMC registration - Practicing clinician
  • Recognised Trainer
  • Evidence of a commitment to on‑going personal clinical and postgraduate qualification such as MD or PhD
  • Certificate, Diploma or Masters in Medical Education or equivalent FHEA recognition
  • Work and other relevant experience (including training)
  • Substantial previous experience of and responsibilities in undergraduate medical education
  • Evidence of administrative / managerial skills
  • Experience as an academic leader
  • Experience with substantive curriculum development
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Experience of managing change in a medical curriculum
  • Ability to use staff development to support learning
  • Track record of scholarship, evaluation and/or research projects relating to healthcare education
  • Evidence of senior academic leadership
