Summer Programs Early Learners Assistant Instructor

Carolina Friends School Summer Programs is seeking an Early Learners Assistant Instructor to join our summer community from June 15, 2026, to August 7, 2026 (with some flexibility in the number of weeks you may work). This position will involve working with children ages 3 to 5. The daily hours on campus are from 8:45 am to 3:15 pm.

Our summer courses are open to the broader community and rooted in our school's mission, values, and vision. Our Early Learners programs are held at both Chapel Hill Early School, conveniently located near the UNC campus, and at our main Carolina Friends School campus, conveniently located between Chapel Hill and Durham on 126 acres of woodlands and pastureland. We aspire to provide programs that spark intellectual curiosity, encourage playful exploration, and help build character.

Carolina Friends School is a preK-12 co-ed day school inspired by Quaker values, committed to excellence in all we do. We believe the best education amplifies a child’s curiosity, courage, and creative thinking. Every day, we empower our students to question the world around them, discover their passions, think deeply, and use their voices to serve the greater good. Because when our students are taught how to think, not just what to think, they are prepared to confidently navigate their own path, advocate for themselves and others, and impact the world around them.

Building on our roots as one of the first purposefully integrated schools in the region, CFS actively seeks students and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Supporting students and the instructor in the classroom
  • Helping with preparation and clean‑up for activities such as art projects, rest, and science experiments, general upkeep, cleaning and organization of classrooms, actively playing with children on the playground, and assisting with lunchtime and clean‑up
  • Providing supervision and fun activities for campers during breaks
  • Mentoring middle‑school‑aged Counselors‑In‑Training
Traits and Requirements:
  • Meaningful, positive experiences working with children, particularly ages 3-5.
  • Respect for and love of children, with a view of children as competent and capable.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
  • Strong intra/interpersonal skills, along with a willingness to work flexibly and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrate an affinity for and interest in the Quaker values as embodied in the CFS community.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to understanding and exploring how power and inequality, influenced by factors such as race, class, gender, sexuality, neurodivergence, and differing physical abilities, impact our students, families, and colleagues.
How to Apply:

Interested candidates should submit the following to job openings, with Summer Programs Early Learners Assistant Instructor indicated in the subject line:

  • Resume
  • Weeks of availability between June 15 and August 7, and the location you are applying for, either Chapel Hill Early School (531 Raleigh Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27514) or Carolina Friends School main campus (4809 Friends School Road)
  • List of 3 references and their contact information

Review of resumes will begin immediately and continue through February. CFS reserves the right to close the recruitment at any time. Candidates are encouraged to apply as soon as all materials can be compiled.
