Skills Needed: This is dual role of a Consultant ObGyn and the Head of Department.The role would require the HOD ObGyn to develop and foster effective collaboration between clinical departments, medical staff leadership, nursing staff and other affiliated services.Work with the department team and medical leadership of the hospital, serving as a resource to help reduce costs & waste, enhance revenues, achieve effective utilization and quality goals and objectives.Lead and support key committees pertaining to relevant service areas.Establish the performance goals, allocate resources, and assess policies for senior management.Organizationally, the Head of Department will work collaboratively with the hospital leadership, to develop and implement well-balanced clinical programs designed to ensure operational and strategic success.Develop and monitor a monthly schedule for the Department.Establish an annual leave plan Approve / disapprove leaves as appropriate.Facilitate department meetings as needed.Participate in Pre-screening of physicians' applications and conduct interviews where necessary.Work closely with other head of departments to ensure optimum operation and patient flow.Monitor overall department productivity and counsel those physicians, where WRVU activity has declined.To make appropriate arrangements when staff are absent, ensuring appropriate cover within the department, liaising with relevant staff to secure appropriate cover.Advocate for the capital, equipment, technology, personnel and administrative support needed to effectively run the department including developing and updating department policies and procedures.Clarify performance expectations on an ongoing basis, as well as providing meaningful frequent feedback.Assess individual yearly performance, for the GP’s, specialists and consultants.Implement and monitor performance improvement plans where required.To assist in the recruitment of new staff and to be responsible for the induction of new staff. All new staff should be appropriately trained, monitored, supported and assessed. Oversee Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation (OPPE) and annual appraisal from the department.Promote and monitor CME activity.Train & orientate new doctors.Promote and monitor professional development within the department.Offer support and advice to members of the department and encourage their professional development.Oversee the quality of care delivered throughout the department. Oversee the quality and appropriateness of health care provided and report and actively resolve any identified deficiencies in the quality of patient care.Develop relevant quality and performance metrics/indicators for the department and a method of tracking, trending and reporting them.Provide ongoing evaluation of departmental members’ competencies and performance of clinical duties in relation to the scope of practice, credentials and privileges of each individual.Ensure the timely completeness of patient documentation is maintained through the department.Investigate incidents/adverse events and mitigate complaints and grievances in the department or related to the actions of any department member.Ensure that the department is in compliance with all regulatory and accreditation requirements by reviewing and updating as necessary departmental policies, bylaws, rules and regulations.
