Austin Water Treatment is one of the largest program areas in Austin Water comprised of eight workgroup areas around Austin.

Water Treatment treats our water to provide some of the highest quality drinking water in the country.

Pump Stations & Reservoirs monitors the City’s water distribution system and ensures reliable distribution from the City’s reservoirs to customers.

Lift Stations & Remote Facilities pump wastewater or sewage from lower to higher elevations throughout Austin to wastewater treatment plants, where it is then treated prior to being discharged back to the Colorado River.

Wastewater Treatment treats sewer water in accordance with Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regulations to return to the Colorado River or reuse through the City’s Water Reclamation program.

BioSolids Treatment converts the sludge removed from wastewater treatment facilities into a composting product called “Dillo Dirt”, which is used in City of Austin parks, and available to the general public.

Pipeline Operations is one of the largest program areas in Austin Water, comprised of five subareas working all over Austin.

Pipeline Water Operations core functions are operate, maintain, repair water distribution pipeline system; install, operate, repair and replace water valves, and fire hydrants; repair, exchange, and accuracy test water meters.

Pipeline Wastewater Operations core functions are TV inspection of sewer lines, line cleaning, emergency response and repair to Sanitary Sewer Overflows, manholes inspection, creek walking, maintenance and calibration of billing meters, as well as repair and replacement of aging wastewater infrastructure.

The minimum qualifications for the AW Pipeline Technician Associate:
At least 18 years of age
Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent
One (1) year of experience in general construction maintenance, general underground utility maintenance, or plumbing activities

Licenses and Certifications Required:
Valid Texas Class “C” Driver License. Must be able to obtain the appropriate class Commercial Driver License with endorsements within ninety days of employment
Must obtain and maintain certification for Respiratory Protection and Confined Space Entry
Positions in water distribution require a Class D Water Operator License from TCEQwithin one (1) year of hire. Must obtain a Class C Water Distribution License from TCEQ before Class D expires
Positions in wastewater collection require a Class I Wastewater Collection License from TCEQ within one (1) year of hire
Preferred Qualifications:
