Mac Ewan University is seeking a Financial Aid Advisor for a full-time continuing opportunity with the Office of the University Registrar.
Reporting to the Associate Registrar, the Financial Aid Advisor is responsible for providing a high level of service to understand, anticipate, identify, and resolve issues involving tuition, fees, scholarships, awards, bursaries, and student loans. The advisor will provide expert advice and direction to ensure students are informed about their fees, financial aid options, and are supported throughout their studies at Mac Ewan University.
Responsibility and Duties Providing knowledgeable and accurate advice to students regarding tuition, fees, scholarships, awards, bursaries, and student loans;
Facilitating information sessions to support new and continuing students in the completion of student loan applications, SAB applications, and financial literacy;
Identifying students in financial crisis and exploring options for Emergency Loan or Bursaries, as well as referring students to other support services throughout the University, as applicable;
Confirming Federal/Provincial student loans, grants, scholarships, and bursaries to full‑time and part‑time students;
Processing confirmations of enrolment in accordance with all federal and provincial aid regulations;
Monitoring and updating all provincial and federal student loan portals;
Administering Mac Ewan’s SAB offerings, including setting up, processing, decision making, auditing, dispensing, and analytical review of applications in accordance with institutional regulations, terms of reference agreements, endowment agreements, and policies and procedures;
Collaborating with colleagues in Alumni and Development, and Faculties and Schools regarding SAB program administration;
Providing back up and coverage for cashiering and general fee services and assisting with troubleshooting student accounts and financial aid inquiries; and
Responding to escalated inquiries regarding student accounts and financial aid;
Skills The capability of working effectively both independently and as part of a team;
The ability to creatively problem‑solve, organize, and prioritize tasks;
Computer knowledge and proficiency in Word, Excel, E‑mail and PowerPoint; and
The ability to show empathy and approach a situation with an open mind.
Qualifications A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field.
A minimum of 3 years of working experience in a post‑secondary environment providing advice and assistance to clients.
Familiarity with registration and student financial accounts.
Experience using People Soft Campus Solutions or another Student Information System would be considered an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
