Northern Lakes College has the following temporary position available:

Instructor, Carpenter
Salary: $65,892 to $101,220 per year

Location:
Drayton Valley

September 1, 2026 to December 18, 2026

Qualifications:

  • Alberta Journeyperson Certificate in Carpentry
  • Inter-provincial Red Seal Certificate
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ post-Journeyperson work experience
  • Experience teaching or mentoring adults
  • A clean vulnerable sector criminal record check prior to commencement
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license
  • A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered
  • Assets:

  • Adult Education Certificate, Diploma, or

    B.Ed.
  • Knowledge of Alberta Apprenticeship System
  • Experience teaching secondary students
  • Experience in the field of trades or industry
  • Experience teaching adults
  • Experience teaching in indigenous or remote communities
  • Nature and Scope of Work:

    Reporting to the Chair, Trades & Resource Technology, this position is responsible for planning, preparing, and delivery of instruction and evaluation of learners for apprenticeship, pre-employment, and dual credit programming. Both theory and lab instruction will be offered via face-to-face delivery. This position also includes liaising with community, government, and industry representatives and working with other College departments as required.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Instruction and Learning Environment

  • Provide instruction to students in a classroom/lab setting
  • Foster and maintain a positive and effective learning environment
  • Plan and prepare for instruction, including program development
  • Delivery of instruction, addressing various learning styles and needs
  • Student Evaluation and Learner Support

  • Evaluate and report on student progress
  • Work with other College departments to facilitate learner success
  • Administrative Responsibilities

  • Monitor classroom supplies and tools inventory
  • Perform administrative tasks
  • Track student attendance & interventions
  • Submit reports and forms as required
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of student information
  • Collaboration, Support, and Professional Engagement

  • Liaison with industry, government, and community representative as required
  • Assist with purchasing of materials and supplies
  • Supportive of College and department vision and direction
  • Enjoys working in a team environment and will collaborate with others
  • Skills/Knowledge:

  • Proficiency in computer skills;
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Self-directed problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Knowledge of Alberta’s apprenticeship system
  • Other skills may be required

    This position is covered under the Collective Agreement between Northern Lakes College and the Faculty Association of Northern Lakes College.
