Job Summary

Our linguists perform real‑time transcriptions of sensitive material from Pidgin to English, collecting, analyzing, identifying, and decoding colloquialisms and slang terms; extracting pertinent information and communicating it to law enforcement agent(s). The linguist transcribes source documents and recordings from storage media, including audio cassettes, videocassettes, or digital media.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Listen to oral and written intercepts or pre‑recorded communications in Pidgin and provide verbal and written synopsis and transcriptions as applicable per project.
  • Relate all pertinent information to the client when supporting a live project.
  • Contribute to a master‑list of slang words and codes used by a particular group/organization during the project/case.
  • Maintain a voice library for the duration of the project.
  • Transcribe and translate pertinent calls and documents as assigned by supervisor.
  • Produce court‑ready transcriptions of pertinent calls, chats, and documents following required format.
  • Use various reference tools created during the project.
  • Transcribe a minimum of 16 minutes of recorded conversation in an 8‑hour day.
  • Operate specialized software equipment provided by the government, including JSI voice box, Pen‑link, Comverse, and other collection equipment at the assigned site.
  • Maintain a daily log of productivity.
  • Perform related duties as assigned within scope of practice.
Minimum Qualifications & Skills
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum one (1) year of translation experience in the required language.
  • Applicant will be subject to a government background investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements to access classified information.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.
  • Knowledge of source language colloquial terms and expressions.
  • Knowledgeable in SMS language, social media, and Webchat.
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written skills in the target language, including correct and accurate grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
  • Meet contract requirement of a score of 3 or better on a third‑party Language Assessment (Listening/Speaking/Reading/Writing) in English.
  • Possess strong computer skills in MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Work under pressure in a fast‑paced environment and communicate effectively with management and law enforcement personnel.
  • Prioritize, manage time effectively, meet stringent deadlines, balance multiple tasks and work in a team environment.
  • Take technical direction and feedback from various sources.
  • Type 45 words per minute.
Clearance

Applicants selected may be subject to a government background investigation and may be required to meet the following conditions of employment.

  • Ability to obtain/maintain a Security Clearance.
  • Favorable credit check for all cleared positions.
  • Successfully pass a background investigation, medical, and drug screen.
  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Permanent Resident who has lived in the U.S. for the past 3 of 5 years.
