Job Description
A Senior Electrical Controls Engineer is a technical leader responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing electrical control systems, often within a specific industry like manufacturing or infrastructure. They lead projects, provide technical guidance, and ensure projects meet standards and regulations. This role involves a blend of engineering expertise, project management, and leadership.
Job Summary- Designs, develops, constructs, and tests electrical control systems for manufacturing equipment and machinery.
- Responsible for electrical design, PLC and motion control programming, testing, and troubleshooting process issues on the production floor.
- Provides daily technical oversight and guidance to the manufacturing engineering team.
- Provide direction for electrical controls engineering standards throughout the manufacturing process.
- Produce project documentation including prints, engineering files, supplier communications, and Engineering Change Orders.
- Maintain electrical control systems on production equipment; design, develop, and test all aspects of electrical components, equipment, and machinery.
- Read schematics and layouts and support best design protocols and analysis.
- Provide production support to maintain quality, production output, and budgets.
- Troubleshoot and design solutions to improve equipment reliability.
- Collaborate with Operations, R&D, Quality, and outside suppliers during new product development stages.
- Manage a range of smaller to complex projects from concept to completion, develop timelines, and ensure project success.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, electrical engineering technologies, or equivalent.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in developing, programming, and testing electrical controls systems.
- PLC and motion control programming, testing, and debugging experience with Allen‑Bradley Compact Logix PLCs utilizing Ether Net/IP, IO‑Link, Mod Bus TCP, and discrete I/O.
- Experience developing HMI, PLC, and vision system programs from start to completion.
- Advanced skills in electrical engineering design tools, power distribution, testing, and data collection equipment.
- Advanced knowledge in designing, building, evaluating, and testing industrial electronic and electrical circuits and components.
- Experience with Keyence Vision, Turck HMIs, IAI Linear Actuators, and Fanuc 6‑axis robots (preferred).
- Strong troubleshooting skills for complex design, programming, and testing of electrical controls systems.
- Understanding of mechanics and basic mechanical skills.
- Technical writing, procedures, and manuals; reading and drawing schematics.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with customers, vendors, other engineers, machinists, assemblers, wiremen, technicians, and supervisors.
- High degree of flexibility and willingness to work on a wide variety of projects and tasks.
- Demonstrated creativity with strong analytical and technical expertise.
