DOWL is looking for a hardworking, self-motivated, and highly organized CAD Drafting Supervisor (with 8+ years of professional drafting experience) who possess the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, professional environment. As a Drafting Supervisor, the successful candidate will have advanced levels of CAD proficiency using Civil 3D and Microstation, as well as have experience delivering ODOT projects, ability to shift quickly between CAD standards for different clients and help the team maximize the efficiency afforded by state-of-the-art CAD software.

The Drafting Supervisor is responsible for managing the production of all CAD deliverables and ensuring that the CAD group is properly resourced and adequately skilled to meet the drafting needs of the Practice Area. As the supervisor of the CAD department this position will report to a Sub-Practice Area Leader within the Practice Area. The position is expected to be highly-utilized, performing CAD work on billable projects for the majority of their work time.

The person in this position is expected to exercise strong leadership, coordination, organization and technical skills. The Drafting Supervisor is responsible for ensuring that the CAD group consistently produces high quality, efficient, and on-time deliverables. A successful Drafting Supervisor is expected to work well with others, serve as a liaison between the CAD group and DOWL's technical design staff, and coach and mentor CAD staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Utilize CAD/Design software to produce high quality 2D and 3D drawings.
* Act as primary contact between CAD staff and other DOWL employees to balance workloads, manage resources, address technical issues, and meet production schedules and budgets.
* Manage CAD staff; delegate production work; perform team scheduling; track deliverables; coordinate quality control efforts; facilitate staff training and professional development; coach and mentor staff; collaborate with team members on production issues; and coordinate with the IT department to maintain and update necessary CAD hardware and software.
* Prepare annual performance reviews for CAD staff across multiple offices.
* Demonstrate advanced proficiency with universal drafting standards and best practices.
* Coordinate with DOWL's Technical Services Manager on the development of new procedures, and drafting initiatives.
* Perform other related duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises selected technical, administrative, supervisory, and dispatch employees and coordinates with other supervisors to manage Materials Testing Technicians and Inspectors in the department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements/Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

This position requires the candidate to have an Associates' (2-year) degree in computer-aided drafting, or a related field. A bachelor's degree in civil engineering, management, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of 8 years of professional drafting experience is required. A minimum of 2 years' experience managing a CAD team or department is preferred.

Previous experience/skills:


* Advanced level CAD proficiency using AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Revit, and/or Microstation
* Ability to quickly learn new CAD platforms to advanced level proficiency
* Accurately interpret markups and efficiently incorporate them into drawings
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Strong leadership and coaching skills
* Demonstrated ability to handle and prioritize multiple projects, and to successfully deliver complete and accurate projects.
* Demonstrated ability to manage and instruct others, deal with sensitive personnel issues and provide technical review of work products.
* Ability to clearly teach and explain drafting skills, standards and techniques to less senior members of the group

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical analysis, and fundamentals of geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

* Accountable for working collaboratively with project teams to ensure that design deliverables are properly resourced and completed in compliance with project scope, schedule and budget.
* Responsible for ensuring proper staffing levels of the CAD department and for growing and maintaining a balanced staff that is able to meet the technical needs of DOWL projects
* Accountable for the department complying with quality control procedures and producing high quality plans and other project deliverables
* Must be able to use Microsoft Teams, Outlook, Word, Excel, and Project software.
