Public Works Field Tech I - II
provides efficient and courteous customer service, turning water on and off for residents, assisting with the repair and maintenance of the water distribution systems, and installing meters and other related equipment.
Additional - Public Works Field Tech IIassists in training of other Public Works crew members.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Field Tech I – II:- Repairs water main breaks and leaks on any and all parts of the water distribution system, including leaking or broken curb stops, valves, fire hydrants and city water mains.
- Checks for leaks in response to citizen complaints or as directed by the Water Billing Office.
- Replaces faulty or stopped water meters and installs meters for new construction.
- Completes work orders issued by the Utility Billing Office including turn-off and turn-on of water service, new installs, replacing faulty meters and transponders.
- Operates light vehicles and heavy equipment (backhoe, loader, hydro-excavators, etc.), unloads and moves materials into and out of dump trucks at various sites as directed.
- Performs operator's maintenance on vehicle, and flushes fire hydrants when required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Duties

- Communicate in English, clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Computer skills in data entry and data acquisition.
Field Tech I - High school education or equivalent is required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must have a valid Class “A” Texas Driver’s license, Class “D” Water Distribution License, or obtain required license within one (1) year of employment.
Field Tech II - High school education or equivalent plus two (2) years of related experience is required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Must have a valid Texas Class “A” commercial driver’s license (CDL) and Class “D” Water License, or obtain required licenses within one (1) year of employment. Must obtain Class “C” Water License within (2) years.
PHYSICALDEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Lifting loads up to 55 lbs. (measuring up to 36”); carrying 55 lbs. (up to 15 feet); pushing/pulling 75 lbs.; gripping/rotating hand tools up to 25 lbs.; stair/step climbing (accessing truck); walking; sitting; standing; near/far vision; accessing sewer structures (manholes, trenches, pipes, etc.); working in outside temperatures including excess heat, cold, and precipitation.
Pre‑employment screening includes but is not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, Credit Check, Motor Vehicle Review and applicable Background Checks.
