Business Development Manager (Category Lead – General Building)

Our client is growing rapidly and is looking for a commercial, field-based Business Development Manager with strong experience across general building materials.
This role is intentionally broad. Initially, you’ll sell a wide range of building products across multiple categories, helping establish supplier relationships, win customers, and shape how the business goes to market. As the team grows, clear category ownership will naturally evolve based on your strengths and experience.
If you’re comfortable selling a bit of everything — and enjoy helping define what “good” looks like in an early‑stage environment — this could be a great fit.
What You’ll Be Doing- Winning new business across contractors, developers, merchants, and trade customers
- Building and developing relationships with building materials suppliers and manufacturers
- Selling a broad range of general building products (initially across multiple categories)
- Helping identify where demand sits and which product areas should be developed further
- Acting as a commercial ambassador for the business in the market
- Feeding back real-world insight to help shape product ranges, pricing, and supplier strategy
- Proven experience in building materials sales (merchant, distributor, manufacturer, or trade-focused roles)
- Comfortable selling across multiple product categories, not just one niche
- A strong network within the construction or building materials market
- Hunter mentality with evidence of new business development
- Commercially minded and confident having pricing and margin conversations
- Happy working in a business where structure is still being built
