DescriptionJOB SUMMARY
The Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of quality assurance and quality management at the manufacturing facility, ensuring compliance with the most recent AS9100 standards, and customer‑specific aerospace requirements. This hands‑on leadership role directs our Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure zero‑defect culture, product conformity, and continuous improvement in fastener production.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintain and improve the AS9100‑compliant Quality Management System. Act as the primary point of contact for internal audits, customer audits, and registrar certification bodies.
- Oversee inspection, testing, and release of fastener components. Ensure First Article Inspections (FAI) are performed per AS9102 requirements.
- Lead the Corrective Action Board, manage the CAPA process, conduct root cause analysis (8D, 5‑Why), and verify the effectiveness of actions taken.
- Lead MRB activities to evaluate and dispose of nonconforming materials (deviation, waiver, rework, scrap) according to AS9100 and customer standards.
- Collaborate with procurement to audit and approve suppliers. Ensure incoming materials meet raw material specifications (AMS, ASTM).
- Oversee the calibration system for measuring equipment (gages, micrometers, CMM) to ensure compliance with AS9100 requirements.
- Supervise, train, and mentor QA personnel (Inspectors, Lab Techs, Quality Engineers).
- Analyze and report monthly Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and key performance indicators (KPIs) to management.
SKILLS and ABILITIES
- Technical experience and knowledge of CNC machining (CNC Swiss screw machining is a plus)
- Knowledge of and/or ability to learn about metal materials and their standards (examples include stainless steel, exotic metals, brass, aluminum, nylon, etc.)
- Statistical background is a plus
- Ability to learn and utilized an ERP systems
- Proficiency in interpretation of specifications and engineering drawings including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Ability to participate in internal and external audits.
- Cross‑functional work experience in major areas such as product engineering, supply chain management, project management, manufacturing, or operations.
- Demonstrates basic understanding lean principles that can be applied through successful completion of assignments.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of ISO
9001 and AS9100 management systems. - Working knowledge of measurement instruments.
- AS9102 FAI inspection preferred.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow verbal and written communications.
- Familiar with GAGE Trak/ Ape software or similar software.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Metallurgy, Industrial) or a related technical field is preferred.
- 5–10 years of manufacturing quality experience and/or machining experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role. (Aerospace/Defense is a plus).
- Audit experience:
In depth knowledge and understanding of going through AS9100 recertification surveillance audits. - Aerospace knowledge:
Deep understanding of AS9100 Rev D standards, NADCAP, and FAA regulatory requirements. - Fastener expertise:
Familiarity with fastener manufacturing processes (Swiss screw machining, heat treating, plating) and aerospace product specifications (AMS, ASTM). - Technical skills:
Experience with FAI (AS9102), GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing), and SPC (Statistical Process Control). - Tools:
Proficient in Quality Management Systems (QMS) software and Microsoft Office Suite. - Certifications:
ASQ certifications (CQE, CQM) are highly preferred. - Must be able to communicate effectively with management, customers, suppliers, and shop personnel.
