Job Description
6th Grade Educator:
The Bridge to Discovery

Location: Johnson-Wabash 6th Grade Center

Year:  School Year

The Opportunity:
Leading the Transition

Sixth grade is a milestone year. It is the bridge between the foundational years of elementary and the independence of middle school. We are looking for a dynamic, compassionate Teacher who specializes in this unique stage of development—helping students transition from "learning to read" to "reading to transform."

As part of the Ferguson-Florissant "New Chapter," you won't just be teaching 6th graders; you will be helping them find their voice in a larger world. If you are an educator who thrives on building confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking in young adolescents, your next chapter starts here.

Role Summary

As a 6th Grade Teacher, you will lead a classroom within one of our two dedicated 6th Grade Centers. You will facilitate a rigorous, student-centered environment that focuses on analytical reading, narrative and expository writing, and collaborative discussion. Working as part of a specialized 6th-grade team, you will help students navigate their first year of a departmentalized schedule while maintaining a strong sense of community and support.

  • STEAM-Ready: You are excited to integrate digital literacy and modern storytelling tools into the classroom.
Your Impact (Key Duties)
  • Bridge the Gap: Guide students as they move into more complex, inquiry-based analysis of diverse literature and informational texts.
  • Cultivate Writers: Help students master the writing process, focusing on developing evidence-based arguments and creative expression.
  • Collaborate: Partner with your 6th-grade team and PLC to ensure a consistent, supportive experience for students across all content areas.
  • Utilize Resources: Leverage our district’s unique assets, like Little Creek Nature Area and our STEAM initiatives, to make literacy multi-dimensional.
  • Foster Belonging: Build a classroom culture that feels like a "home base" for students as they navigate their new middle‑school-style environment.
