Lead Packer responsible for orientation & training of new packers to the shift. Develop packers, provide back-up to supervisors, assign employees to lines, track attendance, assist in breaks, and ensure production lines have the necessary tools and equipment per packing specifications.
Responsibilities Production- Assign machine line responsibility to shift employees.
- Assign and help give breaks (including lunch) throughout shift.
- Pick, inspect, and pack quality parts into boxes. Accurately count parts to ensure consistent, quality product. Bag counted parts and place into the correct box on the assigned production line. Ensure each box is properly sealed.
- With supervisor guidance, direct other packers.
- Participate in training new packers; perform basic orientation and collect training documentation.
- Backup supervisor in absence by completing incident reports, production shift reports, and documents, print Work Orders.
- Conduct progress conversations with packers once a quarter.
- Ensure current packing specs are printed at line for the work order that is running.
- Own process of Packer Certifications for the shift.
- Ensure necessary boxes are staged and ready; reference packaging specs at the start of shift.
- Ensure lines have proper date coding equipment per requirements.
- Assign other tasks like re-pack or hold product inspection during downtime.
- Any other duties assigned by supervisor.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area, participate in resolving unsafe conditions. Escalate unresolved issues to Operator and Supervisor.
- Maintain good housekeeping and keep production areas clean throughout the shift.
- Adhere and reinforce safety policies and procedures.
- Monitor, track, and facilitate quarterly cleaning.
- Train and instruct other packers on packing quality parts and identifying quality issues.
- Report any quality problems immediately to Operator.
- Knowledge of basic quality checks per control matrix and other quality systems.
- Must be fluent in production parts.
- Understanding of SPC and working knowledge of SAP.
- Ability to read production schedule and look up box locations in SAP.
- Use SAP for box inventory lookup, finished goods confirmation, and production work order release.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast‑paced environment.
- Understanding quality constraints for products, conforming vs. non‑conforming.
- Basic Excel knowledge.
- Ability to read and interpret documents.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- 12‑hour shift: 5:00 pm to 5:00 am.
- Work only 15 days of the month.
