General Description:
Catholic Religious Education Coordinator shall provide services as resource person, advisor, for the PSFB Catholic community. Coordinate a program of religious education in accordance with the guidelines set forth by the Air Force Chaplain Corps and the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS), specifically Forming Disciples for the New Evangelization: Archdiocesan Religion Curriculum Guide and the National Catechetical Directory. This will include virtual Religious Education training programs produced by the AMS.

Specific Tasks:
  • Comply with all Chapel Air Force Instructions and Chapel Operating Instructions, specifically but not limited to facility usage, resource protection, fire protection, funds utilization, and safety.
  • Organize religious education monthly classes, and sacramental preparation classes, recruit and train sufficient volunteer teachers, substitutes, and other necessary staff. If you will not able to recruit volunteers, you will be responsible for conducting classes/lessons as required by the Catholic Church. You shall monitor catechists to ensure they register, complete the course, and become certified per AMS policies utilizing the AMS Catechist Manual as a reference guide. Provide orientation for new volunteer staff members in facilities, funding, religious education policies, and available resources. You shall ensure all volunteers and additional staff complete all in processing procedures required by the Chapel Staff. Hold quarterly planning meetings with the Catholic Religious Education (CRE) committee. Contingencies must be in place to execute these planning meetings through video/teleconferencing software (i.e. Zoom, GoToMeeting).
  • Organize at least two volunteer teacher-training events each year, one in the fall and one in the spring.
  • Coordinate the annual Sunday School Christmas program when such a program is deemed necessary or desirable by the Catholic Chapel Community.
  • Schedule and organize the Catholic VBS in consultation with the Catholic Priest. Recruit volunteer teachers and staff and order the appropriate materials with Chapel Tithes and Offering Funds (CTOF) when such a program is deemed necessary by the Catholic Chapel Community.
  • You shall visit each class. If CRE classes are done virtually because of chapel closure or to accommodate those who cannot attend in person, a weekly visit on a virtual CRE platform (Zoom, GoToMeeting) will still be required.
  • Maintain continuity and Community Group records. Desk, computer, and basic administrative supplies are provided by the chapel. Attend all regular meetings of the Catholic Pastoral Advisory Council and Catholic Pastoral Staff. Submit all pertinent data from special events/programs and submit to the faith group chaplain for after-action reports as required. To include a roster of volunteer Sunday school staff, monthly enrollment and attendance for all programs, and any additional information required by the Chapel Staff.
  • Maintain the Catholic RE office and storeroom in a clean, orderly, and safe manner. Using appropriate funding, maintain stock of expendable supplies and procure supplies as needed for the CRE program. Submit funds request as required for support of the CRE program to the Catholic Chaplain and monitor the handling of all funds received in the CRE program to ensure compliance with applicable directives.
  • Generate all publicity for the RE program: RE announcements, flyers, bulletin inserts, events guide and calendar. Must obtain approval from the Delta Chaplain before distributing. Produce a quarterly CRE newsletter, bulletin, or other document (physically and electronically) detailing current curriculum offerings, learning objectives and upcoming events.
  • Plan, coordinate and execute an annual event to honor and recognize the volunteer staff to include Catechetical Sunday, and or an end of the year event using Chapel Tithes and Offering Funds (CTOF).
  • Within 10 days of start date, coordinate with the Archdiocese for the Military Services, to request access to monthly e-Newsletters, and participating in the AMS Catechist Talk Facebook group.
  • In consultation with the Catholic Priest, develop and submit an annual calendar of events, an estimated appropriated funds (APF) budget, and an annual religious education curriculum timeline to the Delta Chaplain as determined by local instructions and procedures. Ensure that respective coordination occurs to include completing all appropriate facility and budget authorization forms prior to event or activity to prevent schedule conflicts. Any deliverables will be coordinated with the Chapel Staff member overseeing the event or activity.

Position Requirements
Bachelor, 3+ Years work experience
  • Shall be a practicing Roman Catholic and present a letter of good standing from their local Catholic Priest stating they are currently practicing Catholic in their Parish and are in good standing with the Catholic Church.
  • Shall have basic working skills with Computer programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. In addition, be able to learn how to navigate Chapel Shared Drive, SharePoint, and other networking platforms used by the Chapel. To include video/teleconferencing technologies (Zoom, GoToMeeting).
  • Shall be able to speak English fluently and provide positive customer service in an interfaith pluralistic environment. Be adept in oral and written communication and provide positive customer service in an interfaith pluralistic environment.
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree in education or related field or equivalent experience. A bachelor’s degree in religious studies or theology is preferable but not required.
  • Must be an approved Catechist teacher with the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) or in the process of obtaining certification.
  • Shall have experience and can demonstrate a familiarity with Catholic liturgical and religious education requirements, rites, and practices, as articulated by the documents of the Second Vatican Council and subsequent statements of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
  • Resume must reflect at least two (2) years of experience including (but not limited to) administration, program coordination, education, bible studies, volunteer work and two references with knowledge of previous work as a religious education coordinator or teacher.   • Develop a working knowledge and application of financial budgets, the military Chapel Tithes and Offering Fund (CTOF) system, and government appropriated funding and request required items/materials.
