Job Summary

Assist journeyman in the planning, layout, installation, testing and repair of wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, motors, equipment and control systems in accordance with all applicable plans, specifications, codes and industry standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Learn to use appropriate hand and power tools to assist in measuring, cutting, bending wire and conduit, drilling holes, pulling wiring, lifting, positioning and fastening objects.
  • Perform minor repairs such as replacing fuses, light sockets, bulbs and switches.
  • Maintain tools and equipment; keep supplies and parts organized; disassemble, repair and reassemble defective electrical equipment.
  • Load, transport, unload and furnish electrician with materials, tools, equipment and supplies; clean work area and restock supplies as necessary.
  • Help install all related items in accordance with applicable plans and specifications; perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft worker.
  • Participate in all safety related processes and programs; engage with work team to ensure zero injuries; report hazards and use stop‑work authority when needed.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to supervisor; participate in investigation process as needed.
  • Participate in pre‑job work planning and safety discussions; identify safety hazards and take corrective action.
  • Understand and respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices; follow lockout/tag‑out procedures.
  • Use effective verbal and written communication skills; actively participate in on‑the‑job training and mentoring opportunities.
  • Produce quality work meeting requirements of plans, specifications and industry standards.
  • Learn to read and understand plans and specifications, including one‑line diagrams, cable and conduit schedules, ladder diagrams, P and ’s, and loop diagrams.
  • Visualize two‑dimensional drawings in three dimensions; assist journeyman in planning, layout, diagram, install and/or repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
  • Observe functioning of installed equipment or systems to determine hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement; notify supervision of any hazards observed.
  • Examine/inspect field conditions and identify problems, inaccuracies, and cost‑saving measures that arise or that may be encountered; take corrective actions as needed.
  • Comply with company code of conduct and jobsite policies.

  • NCCER Construction Craft Laborer NCCER Core Curriculum or equivalent Craft Training Program
Minimum Qualifications

At least 1 year of experience working as an electrician or similar craft as a helper or a combination of work experience and training, and a working knowledge of the electrical craft. Developing knowledge in the fabrication, installation or maintenance of electrical wiring, conduit, systems, equipment and fixtures; testing electrical systems with appropriate tools; must be familiar with the National Electrical Code (NEC).

If applicable must have all necessary licenses for the jurisdiction in which the work is to be performed. Ability to understand and follow directions. Must have all necessary tools. Must be at least 18 years of age. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected) which may include any/all of the following: criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with any applicable laws and regulations.

Work Environment / Physical Demands
  • Lift and carry heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds.
