Responsibilities

Repackaging/Variety Food Packaging Operator

The packaging operator team member position operates, packs and maintains a single packaging cell used to package snack foods. The team member must be able to work well with others within a dynamic, collaborative team environment. Performing essential work activities and ensuring safety and quality in a fast‑paced manufacturing and warehouse environment.

Team member is responsible for the safe operation and maintenance related to packaging of product; monitoring and troubleshooting, starting and shutting down the packing machine; and preparing, cleaning, and maintaining the workplace. The Packaging Operator will take part in the shift kick‑off meetings with the line team.

  • Safely Operates and maintains packaging equipment
  • Ensures that products are produced in accordance with quality specifications
  • Ensures packaging equipment produces safe, quality product at the desired rate
  • Inspect and monitor the machine before, during, and after the production process
  • Read production schedule to determine quantities and types of products to be packaged and adjust packaging rates accordingly
  • Regulate machine flow, speed, and/or temperature through adjustments of machine components, tensions, and pressure as needed
  • Complete all quality testing on the machine (i.e. code date verification, metal detector checks, seal checks)
  • Keep key components of packaging equipment clean. Inspect for defects, fix minor defects, and report defects to the Packaging Machine Coordinator when assistance is needed
  • Report and/or take any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring
  • Legibly fill out required forms and paperwork
  • Monitor and troubleshoot packaging machines
  • Ensure all safety devices are operating properly
  • Inspect, verify and adjust product weight or measurement to meet specifications
  • Observe machine operations to ensure quality and conformity of packaged products to standards
  • Monitor the production line, watching for problems such as pileups, jams, or glue that isn’t sticking properly
  • Inspect and remove defective products and packaging material
  • Listen for malfunction indicators
  • Shut down machines when malfunctions occur
  • Clear machine jams
  • Clean to inspect, finding defects
  • Troubleshoot the cause(s) of poor‑quality products, improper weights (high or low), unacceptable finished package appearance, and machine breakdowns
  • Ensure packaging equipment is running at documented centerlines as the initial step of troubleshooting
  • Set up, start, and shut down packaging equipment
  • Prepare, clean, and maintain the workplace
  • Repackaging team members must also be able to effectively communicate instructions to fellow teammates, including but not limited to:
    Packaging Machine Coordinators, other Packer Operators, Packers, and or Processors.
  • The Repackaging team member must follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) and Food Safety.
Qualifications

1-2 Years in Food Manufacturing/Packaging experience is preferred

Bag/Box manual packing experience a plus

Pay Range

Salary Range: USD $16.32/Hr.
