Systems Administrator – Kentucky State Police

• Provide support for the specialized law enforcement IT software used by KSP personnel.
• First tier technician for all law enforcement software for KSP employees.
• Serve as Help Desk and resource person for 123 Link Agencies and 60 Integrated Criminal Apprehension Program (ICAP) agencies, assisting users with hardware, software, and network related questions; install and test systems and system upgrades, perform file compressions, develop and maintain system utilities for all law enforcement systems.
• Perform standard help desk and operational functions including: enter, execute, and monitor production jobs; install and uninstall equipment such as operating systems, workstations, peripherals, communications devices, control systems, proprietary software packages, networking software, electronic mail, and database management software.
• Assist with and maintain the Law Information Network of Kentucky (LINK) teleprocessing network; manage and provide operating system support; install and monitor performance of servers on local area networks.
• Perform standard paperwork as required; assist supervisor in developing documentation, procedures, and forms; write technical documentation and user manuals; receive complex problem reports and resolve or refer to appropriate personnel.
• Assist with and maintain the Integrated Criminal Apprehension Program (ICAP) network; manage system service providers with routine maintenance issues; participate in systems recovery and provide emergency assistance to KSP and other law‑enforcement agencies statewide.

Education: High school graduate.

Experience, Training, or

Skills:

Two years of experience in IT systems administration, IT systems support, or IT systems analysis.

Substitute Education for

Experience:

Additional education in computer science, IT, or a related field will substitute for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.

Substitute Experience for

Education:

Additional experience in IT systems administration, IT systems support, or IT systems analysis will substitute for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis, or a certification in an IT related field will substitute for the required education.

Incumbents typically perform duties in an office setting.

This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
