The Environmental and Chemical Hygiene Specialist will support NAMRU-D hazardous materials, hazardous waste, solid waste, chemical inventory, environmental inspections, training, and compliance documentation. The position is based onsite at Naval Medical Research Unit Dayton (NAMRU-D), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Responsibilities include the following:
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Provide management and oversight of NAMRU-D HAZMAT and solid waste, including HAZWASTE, non-regulated waste, recycling, used oil, and universal waste.
Monitor hazardous waste, used oil, universal waste, recycled material, and nonregulated chemical waste until final disposal or transfer.
Conduct announced and unannounced inspections of hazardous waste accumulation areas and chemical storage locations.
Maintain the Authorized Use List for hazardous materials and support chemical inventory processes using local systems or JCIMS.Coordinate with chemical users to ensure chemicals are inventoried in accordance with applicable safety manual requirements.
Provide waste disposal data, EPCRA Tier II data, EPCRA Form R data as applicable, quarterly environmental inspection documentation, and related compliance outputs.
Conduct laboratory personnel training on waste disposal requirements and coordinate with NMRC Environmental Programs Manager on environmental and chemical hygiene requirements.
Maintain documentation for command HAZMAT/HAZWASTE operations, conduct physical inventories, complete internal inspections using ESAMS or similar programs, and provide budget projections/recommendations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate degree or higher in waste management, industrial hygiene, occupational and environmental health, safety sciences, or a related field required.
Two (2) years of relevant experience in hazardous material, hazardous waste, and industrial hygiene programs.
Proficient with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Suite programs.
Experience with OSHA, HAZMAT, and HAZWASTE compliance requirements.
Knowledge and understanding of Installation Hazardous Material Plan and environmental compliance requirements.
Excellent interpersonal, oral communication, and written communication skills.
Must qualify for CAC issuance and IT access and comply with DoD, DoN, NAMRU-D, cybersecurity, and OPSEC requirements.
