CDM Smith is looking for an Electrical Engineer 1 to join one of our California-based offices. Under direct supervision, the role includes the following responsibilities:

• Creates basic designs of electric master system plans, power system, protection and generation models, facility power systems, sustainability/renewable energy systems, and other related electrical systems.
• Performs studies of power systems and electrical calculations, including lighting simulations and layouts, communications, fire alarm, security and other similar calculations.
• Assists with the selection and specification of electrical components such as motor control centers, switchgears, transformers, etc.
• Reviews draft designs for compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
• Ensures that firm policies and practices are followed on all designs.
• Conducts site reviews and studies to ensure designs are aligned with location specifications.
• Updates design requirements as necessary.
• Contributes to the firm’s TKM by developing white papers and technical design documentation for new or special case designs and studies.
• Submits technical papers and designs for publication to technical journals.
• Performs other duties as required and may collaborate to create presentation materials for conferences.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronic Engineering, Electrical Technology, or a related discipline.
• 0 years of direct experience (equivalent experience may be considered).
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required; frequency of travel is contingent on duties and project demands. Travel requirements: 5%.

• Basic knowledge of computer-assisted design and drafting (CADD) 3D and 4D software and practices.
• Basic knowledge of engineering principles of design.
• Proficiency with Microsoft business software (Excel, Word, etc.).
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
