Job Overview

We are hiring a Specialized Trades Supervisor to lead a team of trades workers managing building, equipment, maintenance, and infrastructure projects. The role supports FMDC operations and embodies the mission and vision of OA‑FMDC.

The salary indicated represents a base pay rate. If the selected individual is eligible for a pay differential (for example, shift, security, or years of service), it will be added to total compensation. A pay differential does not raise base pay.

Responsibilities
  • Prioritize excellent customer service for a wide and diverse network of internal and external stakeholders, including internal teams, state agencies, contractors, and the public.
  • Perform, supervise, and ensure the quality of work related to heavy equipment and machinery operation, electrical, HVAC, electronics, carpentry, concrete and masonry, welding, plumbing, and painting.
  • Assist in complex projects and supervise vocational‑level employees, including hiring recommendations, training, planning, assigning work, performance assessment, and coaching.
  • Prioritize and manage purchasing requests, monthly administrative programs, time and leave usage, facility coverage, and training program compliance.
  • Ensure facilities remain in compliance with agency programmatic requirements.
  • Answer emergency calls and occasionally travel to other facilities to provide coverage and assistance.
  • Provide coverage at state facilities after hours and/or for emergency purposes (e.g., severe weather, snow removal, water leaks, fire) to ensure facilities and grounds are maintained and cleared for state business.
  • Follow all OA‑FMDC health and safety protocols in addition to OSHA standards.
  • Plan, manage, and direct numerous time‑sensitive projects independently or as part of a team using procedures, processes, regulations, and practices applicable to a specialized trade.
Qualifications
  • 3–5 years of skilled experience in trades, building maintenance, or construction.
  • Safety‑first mindset with considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • OSHA 10 and/or 30 preferred; FMDC can provide if needed.
  • Excellent attendance, work ethic, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to discern skill set needed for projects and determine whether it can be completed in‑house or by a contractor.
  • Ability to communicate, collaborate, and lead with integrity, inspiring trust and building positive rapport with diverse stakeholders and the public.
  • Ability to train, mentor, coach, and develop staff skills.
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex technical documentation to solve problems and provide multiple options for resolution.
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver license from Missouri or an adjacent state.
Physical Demands

This position is physically demanding. Job duties may include prolonged periods of walking, standing, sitting, bending, driving, climbing ladders, lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds, working in inclement weather, and working on uneven or elevated surfaces. This list is not exhaustive but gives a general representation of duties that may be encountered in this position. Other duties may be assigned based on business needs.

The position is classified as a “Category 1” under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), meaning the incumbent will be compensated for overtime at the rate equal to time worked.
