Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist
Overview
Inpatient assignment:
Assists the attending physician in the care and management of patients on inpatient units within the hospital. Responsibilities include patient rounds, contributing to daily care decisions, writing orders, interacting with consultants, and facilitating scheduling of therapeutic and diagnostic tests and procedures. Frequent bedside visits are made to assess patient status and direct care. The role may also see patients in a clinic environment.
Emergency Department assignment:
Assists Emergency Department physicians in comprehensive medical care of patients in the ED, chest pain observation unit, and other roles as determined by the supervising physician. The incumbent consults with the supervisory physician to determine the most appropriate care for patients.
Clinic assignment:
Under supervision of an attending physician, provides diagnostic and therapeutic health care coverage for patients. Tasks include taking medical histories, performing physical examinations, coordinating lab tests and diagnostic studies, prescribing medications, and assisting patients with treatment plans and education. May include sharing call hours, providing phone coverage, and seeing admitted patients within the hospital.
ICU assignment:
Assists the attending ICU physician in patient care and management. Responsibilities mirror those of the inpatient assignment: patient rounds, contributing to daily care decisions, writing orders, interacting with consultants, and coordinating therapeutic and diagnostic test scheduling, with frequent bedside visits to assess and direct care.
Minimum
Education and Experience Requirements:
Master’s degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program.
Must meet the requirements set forth by the Medical Staff Office to obtain and retain privileges to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant within UF Health Shands Hospital and/or the Shands UF Healthcare Network, as applicable.
Licensure / Certification / RegistrationCurrent and clear license (or eligible to be licensed) as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Florida.
BLS is required.
