The Locomotive Pipefitter is a Locomotive Department position of the Gary Railway Company of Transtar, Inc. The Locomotive Pipefitter is responsible for the maintenance and repair of pipe apparatus on locomotives, machinery, building systems, and pneumatic systems.
Job Responsibilities:
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair air, water, fuel, and hydraulic piping systems.
- Perform pipe fitting work on locomotives, railcars, maintenance facilities, and other railroad infrastructure.
- Read and interpret blueprints, piping schematics, and technical drawings.
- Measure, cut, thread, and bend pipe using hand and power tools.
- Operate welding and brazing equipment when required for pipe joining and repairs.
- Ensure all work complies with company policies, industry regulations (FRA, OSHA), and safety standards.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and engineering teams to ensure proper system integration.
- Maintain accurate work records, logs, and reports as required.
- Participate in safety briefings and report unsafe conditions immediately.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to read technical drawings and schematics.
- Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and pipe fitting equipment.
- Familiarity with welding, cutting, and threading techniques.
- Ability to work in confined spaces, at heights, and in various weather conditions.
- Experience in the railroad industry preferred.
- Welding certification preferred
- Knowledge of Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety regulations preferred.
