Commercial HVAC Technician

Accountable to the Service Manager, the Technician will perform daily field activities for aftermarket projects, T&M labor, preventive maintenance agreements, and crew management. Core responsibilities include maintaining client relationships, ensuring safety standards, providing high‑quality workmanship, and documenting all work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Project Manager with installation training when required.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose building mechanical systems, including RTUs, split systems, VRFs, boilers, chillers, AHUs, and VAVs.
  • Repair or install proposed solutions based on diagnostic findings.
  • Plan, layout, and execute repairs or installations with optimal efficiency.
  • Work independently and read/interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist with owner training and support the Service Manager with warranty and non‑warranty issue resolution.
  • Communicate with customers and facility directors on site.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and handle the startup/issue resolution for other mechanical and control product lines.
  • Consult with the Service Manager or manufacturer support during uncertain situations.
  • Collaborate with project stakeholders to solve issues effectively and efficiently.
  • Coordinate with aftermarket project management and service controllers to keep jobs on track and on schedule.
  • Collaborate with manufacturers, AEC stakeholders, sales, application engineering, and operations teams to ensure effective issue resolution.
  • Maintain company culture, core values, and understanding of the company’s long‑ and short‑term mission and vision.
  • Attend quarterly reviews.
Additional Knowledge / Skill Set
  • Understand basic refrigeration cycle, super heat, subcooling, component identification, and use of manifold gauge sets, pressure/temperature charts, and temperature measuring devices.
  • Harvest knowledge of refrigeration recovery, evacuation, and proper charging based on super heat and subcooling.
  • Understand basic electrical theory, AC/DC currents, single‑phase and three‑phase circuits, series and parallel circuits, Ohm’s Law, and use of multimeters for voltage, current, and resistance measurements.
  • Understand air conditioning and control of temperature, humidity, and distribution; read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Understand basic heating cycle, identify heating system components, diagnose problems in gas‑fired units using a gas pressure meter and other routine maintenance devices.
  • Understand combustion theory and use of gas combustion analyzers to correct improper combustion.
Education, Experience & Qualifications
  • HVAC Journeyman license and EPA certification; minimum one year of trade‑related experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent GED certificate.
  • OSHA 10‑hour safety certificate.
Location & Travel

Candidate may be required to travel to various manufacturer locations throughout the United States, primarily within Kentucky.

Compensation

Hourly pay ranges from $29 to $50 per hour, or total compensation range of $60,000 to $105,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.
