Overview

The role: We are seeking an experienced Painter to join the Estates team at Glasgow Royal Infirmary, part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde. This is a key role within a busy acute hospital environment, supporting essential building services and patient care through planned and reactive maintenance work.
As part of the Operational Estates Maintenance team, you will carry out painting and decorating maintenance within healthcare facilities in compliance with HAI SCRIBE policies and procedures, as well as industry codes and standards and H&S requirements.
All other roles will be assessed for sponsorship eligibility in line with current Home Office requirements. NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) can only issue a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) where these are met.
Duration, Location, and Working Pattern- Location based in Glasgow Royal Infirmary
- Permanent Contract
- Full-time position (36 hours per week)
- Shift pattern for this post is Monday - Thursday (08:00-16:00), Friday (08:00-14:30)
- Carry out painting and decorating maintenance within healthcare facilities in compliance with HAI SCRIBE policies and procedures, as well as industry codes and standards and H&S requirements.
- Undertake planned and ad hoc maintenance including the completion of job dockets and timesheets.
- Interior painter work including cleaning and preparation of surfaces, application of tape and filling of joints, painting, staining, and protective/decorative finishes, including floor paint.
- Hanging wall coverings including preparation of surfaces and cleaning.
- Participate fully in a Permit-to-Work system.
- Affix signs and labels and carry out basic sign writing.
- Stencilling and other detailing as required.
- Consult with users on colour choice, take room dimensions, prepare materials list, request spare parts and materials from the Building Supervisor/Coordinating Supervisor, and note further work required.
- Cleaning of metal kitchen canopies and light shades.
- Served a recognised apprenticeship or structured training in painting/decoration/SVQ Level 3 Modern Apprenticeship – equivalent to level 3 or Higher/ Advanced Higher, Higher National Certificate, National Progression Awards/ Professional Development Awards (SCQF- 6-7)
- You will join a supportive and skilled team within the Estates department, responsible for maintaining a safe, functional hospital environment 24/7. The team includes trades and support staff, and technical officers across disciplines.
- You will be supported by experienced supervisors and have access to NHS education and training opportunities to help you maintain and develop your skills. The role may also involve supporting junior colleagues and less experienced team members.
