You will be the Packaging & Shipping Engineer for the Program Integration & Packaging Team at LMCOMFC Dallas. Our team drives the end‑to‑end packaging strategy for aircraft programs, ensuring every component— from subsystems to hazardous cargo—meets contractual, DOTCFR
49, and security requirements while supporting timely delivery to our customers.

What You Will Be Doing

As the Packaging & Shipping Engineer you will be the program’s primary point of contact for all packaging and transportation needs. You’ll work side by side with Integrated Product Teams (IPTs), suppliers, and the LM Shipping department to develop, qualify, and continuously improve packaging solutions that protect value‑critical hardware and comply with safety and classification rules.

Your Responsibilities will include:
  • Collaborating with IPTs, suppliers, and the shipping organization to define packaging and transport requirements for systems, subsystems, and components.
  • Writing and maintaining Special Packaging Instructions (SPI) and ensuring compliance with contractual and DOTCFR
    49 POP standards.
  • Managing shipments of hazardous, classified, and unclassified items, acting as the POC for routing, documentation, and clearance.
  • Evaluating and introducing new packaging techniques to streamline the shipping process and reduce cost.
  • Conducting root‑cause analysis on damaged shipments and driving corrective actions that align with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Influencing program objectives and long‑range goals for Packaging Data Content (PDC) products and services.
  • Coordinating all shipping requests through LM Shipping and the broader PHS&T team, ensuring timely execution.
  • Maintaining a Secret clearance (or obtaining one) and supporting site‑specific safety and security protocols.
Basic Qualifications
  • Knowledge of shipping practices, procedures, and inspection requirements, including shipping documents, forms, and other paperwork.
  • Proficiency with company purchase request and applicable computer systems.
  • Understanding of handling and packaging procedures and Federal Department of Transportation regulations related to hazardous materials.
  • Ability to apply knowledge of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) to receive, inventory, and identify hazardous materials in accordance with GMP.
  • Experience developing Special Packaging Instructions to support initial hazard classification, procurement, fabrication, and shipment of hardware.
  • Planning and conducting Performance‑Oriented Packaging (POP) testing and reporting, including test plan preparation, coordination with testing facilities, observation, data collection, and test report completion.
  • Program packaging support, coordinating with shipping departments, identifying required packaging, interfacing with regulatory agencies, and supporting program packaging questions and meetings.
  • Scheduling and conducting Packaging, Handling and Storage (PHS) program/technical reviews.
  • Developing efficient and economical protection provisions for all system materiel.
Desired Skills
  • 3+ years of related experience, with or without a post‑secondary degree.
  • Strong technical background and mechanical CAD (MCAD) skills, preference for CREO or PTC Pro/E.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent audio‑visual presentation skills and technical writing experience.
  • Knowledge of hazardous materials transportation and shipping regulations (e.g., 49 CFR, ICAO, IMDG Code, ASTM D 3951).
  • Familiarity with military specifications/standards, RFID technology, and product data management software.
  • Ability to work onsite, travel internationally, and work overtime as required.
