Position: Teaching Assistant (Permanent, Contract, Temporary)
Location: Woolwich

About the Role
A welcoming and inclusive primary school in Woolwich, Greenwich is seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This role will be based in the Reception class, supporting young children with Special Educational Needs (SEN) at the early stages of their education.

The successful candidate will play a vital role in helping children with additional needs access learning, develop key social and communication skills, and build strong foundations for their future education.

Key Responsibilities

Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN within the Reception class
Support children with ASD, ADHD, SEMH, speech and language needs, and other additional needs
Implement individual education plans (IEPs) and behaviour support strategies
Use positive handling techniques in line with school policy (physical intervention training essential)
Support early years development, including phonics, communication, and social interaction
Work closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals
Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive early years learning environment

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Proven experience working with children with special educational needs, ideally within Early Years or Reception
Positive Handling/Behaviour Management training (e.g., Team Teach or equivalent)
Strong behaviour management skills
A calm, patient, and nurturing approach
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
A good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
