JOB PURPOSE STATEMENT/S: The position of Accountant is primarily responsible for helping to prepare and ensuring the accuracy of the district’s budget document, annual financial statements and state required reporting. Other responsibilities include maintaining bond fund accounting, cash forecasting, cash management, completing journal entries, and forecasting the district’s financial position. This position also prepares board reports and provides fiscal analysis for the Board and District Management.

• Ensure accuracy of the budget document and annual financial statements for district audit and CAFR, including working with outside auditors in the preparation of audit and CAFR documents.
• Implement reporting procedures and internal controls as instructed by the Director of Business and Operations for the purpose of maintaining accurate records.
• Inform personnel regarding various procedures and program requirements for the purpose of providing necessary information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with established fiscal guidelines.
• Instruct other business personnel for the purpose of informing them of current procedures.
• Maintains various fiscal information, files and records for the purpose of providing and up-to-date reference and audit trail for compliance.
• Monitors fund balances of assigned programs and related financial activity for the purpose of ensuring that allocations are accurate, related revenues are generated, expenses are within budget limits and/or fiscal practices are followed.
• Ensure accuracy of budgets (e.g. general fund and special funds) for the purpose of providing financial data to the Director of Business and Operations, Superintendent and Board.
• Prepare documentation for the purpose of providing written support and/or conveying information.
• Process various fiscal information (special project allocations, etc.) for the purpose of updating information and/or authorizing final action in compliance with accounting requirements.
• Recommend policies, procedures and/or actions to the Director of Business and Operations on issues that relate to accounting functions for the purpose of providing direction and/or making decisions for the district.
• Reconcile account balances for the purpose of maintaining accurate account balances and complying with related policies, practices and/or regulations.
• Research discrepancies of financial information and/or documentation (e.g. purchase orders, invoices, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring accuracy and adherence to procedures prior to processing for action.
• Provide budgetary controls and reporting for the construction program and capital spending.
• Oversee internal auditing of school and District accounts.
• Submit a monthly budget statement for the Board of Directors detailing the status of each appropriation level.
• Prepare financial reports as required by state and federal agencies having jurisdiction over public school funds.
• Ensure compliance with EMMA, reporting requirements, arbitrage reporting, actuarial reports as required for the audit, and federal / state reporting fiscal reporting requirements.
• Advise Director of Business and Operations regarding the development of department policy and budgets within areas of responsibility.
• Assist administrators and supervisors in resolving financial problems. Provides advice on a wide range of financial matters.
• Serve as a liaison with local and federal governmental units.
• Maintain professional growth through active membership and participation in professional organizations; maintain current knowledge of new district/state procedures and legislation related to the position.

• Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
• Perform other duties, as assigned.
Position Requirements
Bachelor, 3 to 4 Years work experience
• Experience Required: A minimum of three years experience in governmental or business accounting. Five or more years of experience performing similar tasks preferred.
• Education Required: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field (Business Administration) required, Master’s Degree in Accounting or a related field and/or a CPA or like certification preferred.
• Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:
- Skills in interpersonal communication (oral and written), to use computers in support of the accounting function, manage personnel and services, communicate effectively, problem solve and maintain records.
- Knowledge of educational support services and operations.
- Abilities to serve as a productive member of a work team, sit for prolonged periods, work with minimal supervision, think logically, be attentive to detail, supervise others, utilize problem solving methodology. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling/fingering, talking/hearing, near visual acuity.
- Ability to speak a second language preferred.
• Testing Required: Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance.
