Job Summary
Contributes to classroom and clinical instruction in collaboration with and under the direction of the primary instructor/program director and the Dean of Nursing. Provides high quality instruction and engagement with students in the clinical and/or lab settings in order to assist them in meeting course outcomes. Collaborate with the Dean and primary instructor to determine student progression.
Essential DutiesEducation: Current unencumbered registered nurse (RN) license or practical nurse license (LPN) in the State of Oregon, or a current unencumbered RN or LPN license in another state and ability to be licensed in the State of Oregon prior hire date and maintained throughout employment.
Experience/Training:
- Minimum (1) year of experience as a licensed nurse.
- Current driver's license, insurance, and the ability to be insured by the college's insurance carrier. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history.
- Current Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) card prior to hire date and maintain throughout employment.
- Documentation of immunizations prior to hire date and maintain as required throughout employment.
- Experience with teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse student populations.
- Experience in a long-term care nursing setting.
- Must be able to work flexible hours with some weekends and/or evenings.
- Must submit a drug screen upon hire.
- Submission of a background check in addition to the College’s standard check may be required based on clinical site.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of nursing skills and the role of the scope of practice for a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Knowledge of methods of assessment and evaluation of student's nursing skills and care of client in a clinical setting.
- Ability to work well with people of all ages from academically, culturally, and economically diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently in handling multiple tasks, priorities and changing deadlines.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Ability to utilize a computer and any necessary software.
Work is typically performed in a classroom and clinical healthcare setting.
Salary PlacementInitial salary placement for Instructional Load Credit (ILC) Instructors will be based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College, per the guidelines in the Collective Bargaining Agreement and in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. Initial salary placement for all other newly hired instructors will be at Level 1.
